Croatia
Croatia started becoming popular as a tourist destination after some of Game of Thrones was filmed there.
I wanted to avoid tourists, so I stayed far away from Dbruvnik. I visited Plitvice for its beautiful waterfalls, staying over night and heading into the park on the first boat in the morning and leaving the area before most of the other tourists arrived.
Then I drove to Slovenia.
I returned, though, and stayed on the small island of Susac, where I was one of four inhabitants of the island during my stay (the others being the two caretakers of the lighthouse I stayed in, and a guy who tended sheep on the other side of the island). I had to find someone willing to sail me out to the island in his own boat from the mainland, because there were no ferries to the island.
