Eva Lunia
I never actually met Eva in person, though we did talk online several times. We did a photo shoot with her in Spain and me in Denmark.
She contacted Anna/Poppy because she saw that Anna had a way to work remotely with photographers during the Covid lockdowns. Eva wondered if Anna could help Eva set up a similar service. Since I had set up Anna’s remote photography system, Anna sent Eva to me.
I agreed to help Eva and we spoke for a few hours on a couple occasions with me explaining how things worked. She would need:
her own camera and tripod,
a computer,
a cable to connect the camera to the computer,
software on the computer that could trigger the camera’s shutter and drive other functions, like exposure and focus,
a system that would allow someone to connect to her computer and control the camera from another location,
and finally a service to send the raw files from the camera to the remote photographer so that he could process them.
I suggested that she have an assistant, as Anna did, but Eva did not have that option.
She had her own camera and computer. She located the required cable and software, although the software was more limited for her camera than the system Anna and I used. She eventually got it all working, though. She offered to pay me for my help, and instead of money I asked to shoot remotely with her, so that I could get insights into the experience for the remote photographer.
Since her system was quite limited, we agreed that we would just put a chair for her to pose around (so that the camera could just have a single focus setting). I asked her to wear something simple and she chose a sweater and skirt, which was perfect for me.
We started taking portraits with her fully clothed. I often like to do this as it helps to work out how I will communicate with the model with minimal distractions! As she started removing clothing (because she, like many models, prefers to pose nude), we found some surprising ways of using her sweater that neither of us had planned on. I asked her to leave the sweater over her head for a while. I loved the way it looked and we played with that for a while.
In the end, despite never being in the same city with Eva, I felt like I had a real photo session with her and got to know her as well.
