Susan

Susan was a great friend through all my years at Northeastern University.

During our Freshman year, we sat together as we heard about the international co-op program. We agreed that we would do it.

I chickened out. My mom was worried about terrorists and I was nervous about not speaking French, not to mention being able to afford it.

But Susan did it. She spent 6 months in Paris. I would write her letters with my Mac and print little graphics on the envelopes. I sent them to her office, as it was the only address I had. The secretaries, she told me later, always commented on her “exotic letters”.

Susan got addicted to travel, then, and did another international co-op in the Netherlands, if I remember correctly.

I was inspired by her stories and this convinced me that I must move to Europe at some point in the future, and conquer my fear of foreign languages. So when I met a Danish girl on my first visit to France, deciding to learn Danish and move to Denmark was just a way to live out that commitment.
