Cherry

I met Cherry while camping in upstate New York in 1992. We were attracted to each other quickly and started dating right away. We had a circle of friends in common and worked for the same company, albeit in adjacent states. While perhaps it’s a bit silly, I loved that as a couple we were Cherry and Kerry.

We went on a cruise to the Caribbean together in January 1993.

We parted ways when I decided to take a job in California and moved to the other side of the country. This was emotionally difficult for us both and we fell out of contact.

I happened to be in a phase of attempting to teach myself to draw during our relationship, so I made a number of drawings of Cherry, drawn mostly from pictures. In fact, she’s the only person I’ve attempted to draw so many times. While my attempts may well fail to truly capture her essence and definitely do show the limitations of my skills, the remind me how much I cared about her.
