Namibia

After my successful trip to New Zealand, I wanted another driving trip. I bought a book called Epic Drives of the World and found a description of “Crossing the Kalahari in Botswana”. I had never been to sub-Sahara Africa, and decided it was time.

It turned out, however, that I liked Botswana’s neighbour, Namibia, better. It’s a real photographer’s paradise. Lee Frost had a trip there, but I decided I felt ready to take a solo vacation. I did get help, though, and found a “self-drive 4x4” agency that would set up an itinerary, book campsites and hotels, and rent a 4x4 camper as a single package.

I chose a 22-day trip, starting in the capitol, driving to the southern border (with South Africa), out to the coast, all the way up to the northern border (with Angola), mid-way inland and down to a big national park, then finally back to the capitol.

It was one of my favorite trips.
