Maldives

After arriving in Male, the capitol city of the Maldives, I had to take a small sea plane to get to my resort. I used that as a photo opportunity, of course!

The island I stayed on was less than 1 km in circumference, which was exactly what I wanted after driving myself crazy trying to cover everything on the three Greek islands I visited in 2011. It still offered lots of potential for pictures.

I brought a small underwater point and shoot camera and went a little crazy with it while snorkeling. I put those pictures last.

As a somewhat amusing side story...

I gave my pictures titles on Flickr (which was part of the fun for me). I named on shot of the the airport runway “Male landing strip”. I later noticed that I had lots of views of that somewhat boring picture. I wondered why and investigated where all the views were coming from. It turned out that it came from Google image searches.

So I did a Google image search for “Male landing strip” and discovered that “Male”, aside from being the name of the Maldives capitol, could also be seen as a gender, and landing strip is what some people call how men groom their pubic hair. My picture didn’t really match the rest of the results!
