Diversionary Music

I’m not a musician. I’m a person who attempts to make music to avoid boredom.

(released June 2019)

I play instruments for the technical challenge. If I keep at it, a piece of music very slowly moves from impossible and painful to, eventually, effortless and enjoyable. Well, maybe not ever effortless, but at least enjoyable.

For that to happen, I need to work at a new piece every day, just a little bit, until my brain eventually seems to realise that I’m not going to give it a rest. Then it gives in and just plays the notes in more or less the right order.

It’s a great way to fight boredom, because it’s hard to be bored when you are frustrated.

I mostly prefer to play when I am alone, as I generally believe that, even when I play at my best, I enjoy the experience more than those who have to listen. Some people, however, have suggested otherwise, so I have recorded a few of my practices sessions.
